Dr. John Strother Clayton was born April 17, 1925 in Arkansas. He began his career in radio with Armed Forces Radio in France after World War II. Clayton was writer and director for many successful radio programs produced by the University of North Carolina around the 1950s. He later earned a doctorate from Yale University, and returned to the University of North Carolina to teach and work on educational media projects.
